Step 1: Lay the flag horizontally
Begin by placing the Tiranga horizontally on a clean and suitable surface, ensuring that it is handled carefully and does not touch the ground.
Step 2: Fold the saffron and green bands
Fold the saffron and green bands inward and underneath the white band. The folds should be made carefully and neatly, without crumpling or damaging the fabric.
Step 3: Keep the Ashoka Chakra visible
Fold the white band in a manner that leaves the Ashoka Chakra visible, along with portions of the saffron and green bands. This ensures that the emblem remains prominently visible on the folded flag.
Step 4: Carry and store it with dignity
Once properly folded, the Tiranga should be carefully carried on the palms or arms. It should then be stored in a clean and respectful place, ensuring that the National Flag remains protected from damage or disrespect.

Also, for the first time, Vande Mataram will echo from the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort in New Delhi as India celebrates its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026. The historic recital comes as the nation marks 150 years of the national song, which inspired millions during India’s freedom struggle.
The song will be sung upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival at the Red Fort, before he unfurls the national flag and delivers his Independence Day address. As part of the tribute, an Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter will also carry a banner commemorating 150 years of Vande Mataram and shower flower petals over the gathering.
