NEW DELHI: The Central Sanskrit University (CSU), New Delhi, has invited applications for an interdisciplinary internship under an Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS)-funded project titled “Indian Aesthetic Science in Living Traditions.” The programme aims to study and document India’s rich aesthetic heritage by combining classical Sanskrit knowledge with modern cultural practices. It will create a bridge between traditional knowledge systems and modern academic research. It will examine how Indian aesthetic principles have evolved over centuries and how they continue to shape everyday cultural expressions in contemporary society. It will look at areas like fashion, textiles, gems, food, perfumes, architecture, and interior design. By combining Sanskrit texts with living traditions, the project aims to present Indian aesthetics as a living and evolving system, not just history.

The internship is intended especially for Ph.D. research scholars from diverse academic backgrounds, with a strong preference for candidates who have knowledge of Sanskrit. The interdisciplinary nature of the programme will allow scholars from fields such as humanities, design, cultural studies, history, and performing arts to collaborate and contribute meaningfully to the research outcomes. Selected interns will be expected to engage in both textual analysis and field-based research, including documentation of traditional practices, interaction with artisans and cultural practitioners, and study of regional variations in aesthetic traditions. Through this internship, CSU aims to promote new research methods that combine study of ancient texts with fieldwork and real-life learning experiences.

The internship will run for a duration of six months and will be based at the CSU headquarters in New Delhi, with provisions for fieldwork as required by the research design. A total of 10 interns will be selected for the programme. Each selected candidate will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000 during the course of the internship. The financial support is meant to help interns focus on their research and fieldwork without worrying about money problems.

Applicants must submit a detailed curriculum vitae, self-attested copies of academic qualifications, a one-page statement of interest outlining their research motivation, and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their Ph.D. supervisor. Submit the applications before May 30, 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be selected based on academic merit, research aptitude, and relevance of their proposed interests to the project theme.
