The two-day Bharatiya Bhasha Sangam 2.0 concluded on April 29 at GSC Bhavan in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat’s Narmada district, marking the culmination of a national-level initiative celebrating India’s linguistic diversity and cultural unity.

Organised by the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, the event brought together writers, scholars and language advocates from across the country to promote the use and preservation of Indian languages.

Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who attended the programme, stated that the gathering reflected India’s cultural unity and linguistic richness. Held near the Statue of Unity, the venue underscored the symbolism of national integration.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of Narendra Modi’s “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”, emphasising cultural harmony through linguistic exchange. Ekta Nagar, he added, has emerged as a key global tourism destination and a symbol of India’s unity and integrity.

The event witnessed participation from prominent literary figures, including Gujarat Sahitya Akademi President Bhagyesh Jha, Secretary Jayawardhan Singh Jadhav, Indian Language Forum President Atul Bhai Kothari, and Rajeshwar Kumar. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi and Minister of State Jairambhai Gamit were also present.

Continuation of 2023 Initiative

The 2026 edition builds upon the first Bharatiya Bhasha Sangam, held on August 18–19, 2023, at Tent City near the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar. The inaugural edition focused on the unity of Indian languages and saw participation from around 300 representatives representing 34 languages, including linguists and writers from across the country.

Organisers stated that the Sangam continues to serve as a platform for dialogue among linguistic communities, reinforcing the importance of native languages in education, governance and cultural identity, while strengthening the broader vision of national integration.
