Murshidabad: Polling day in West Bengal witnessed fresh violence after unidentified miscreants hurled a crude bomb in the Nowda area of Murshidabad district, leaving several people injured. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos following the explosion, with locals running for safety. The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities, and their condition is currently being monitored.

This marks the second such incident in the district within 24 hours. On the previous night, crude bombs were reportedly thrown near Shivnagar Primary School, injuring a woman. Notably, Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Sahina Mumtaz Khan, who was present in the vicinity, narrowly escaped unhurt in that incident.

Following the latest attack, security arrangements across Murshidabad have been significantly strengthened. Additional forces have been deployed, and sensitive areas are under close watch. The district has a history of poll-related violence, making it a focal point for authorities during elections.

Reacting to the incident, Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal stated that strict action would be taken and confirmed that a detailed report has been sought. The Election Commission has reiterated its commitment to ensuring free and fair elections, even as sporadic incidents of violence pose challenges on the ground.

Allegations have been made against the Trinamool Congress of obstructing voting at Booth No. 54 under Raninnagar Assembly constituency No. 63, allegedly preventing voters from accessing the polling station
