Police barged into Edappazhani Kumararamam Balasubramania Swami temple, broke the furniture and idols and brutally manhandled the workers of Sangh-inspired Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samiti near Tiruvananthapuram. The incident took place on April 20. BJP City District president Karamana Jayan alleged that the police’s dirty game was for pleasing the CPM.
Jayan said to the media that CPM had tried to create physical confrontation in Vattiyoorkkavu assembly constituency in connection with the recently concluded assembly elections. Consequently, police registered cases against BJP leaders. There were some conflicts on April 19. BJP leaders met the City Police Commissioner on April 20 and reached a reconciliation.
Karamana Jayan said that his party agreed to cooperate in compliance with the request of the police. But, despite these, police barged into the Edappazhani Kumararamam Balasubramania Swami temple and assaulted the Hindu organisation workers and arrested them. The Kshethra Samrakshana Samiti workers were brutally tortured inside the police vehicle also. Jayan said that Vattiyoorkkavu Circle Inspector (of Police) Deepu Pillai and SHO (Station House Officer) Binu were behind the violent actions. Jayan said, BJP would go ahead with strong agitations and actions against the police hooliganism.
During the election campaign, CPM workers had attacked BJP men in Nettayam. The attack against the temple was in continuation of Nettayam issue. They ‘invaded’ the temple and brutally tortured the Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samiti workers who were attending a meeting held in a hall where religious classes are conducted. They had to undergo inhuman police torture. The police force was led by the Circle Inspector Deepu Pillai and SHO Biju. Two cases were registered in connection with the incidents of Nettayam confrontation. The police resorted to violence against the workers when they came to the temple for arresting them. Deepu Pillai has been facing the allegation that he plays political games with the advantage of his CPM links.
CPM-Congress goons, on April 19, attempted to attack RSS-BJP workers on top of the Nettayam hills. CPM-Congress blokes went to the extent of exhibitionism also. R Sreelekha IPS (Retd) BJP state vice president, Corporation Councilor and assembly candidate in the Vattiyoorkkavu constituency alleged that police registered a single case with CPM and BJP workers as the accused. They are accused of attacking the police. Sreelekha said that framing both CPM and RSS workers as accused in a single case is really deplorable. Karaman Jayan said that CPM people threw brickbats at the police at Nettayam hills. This is the game plan of the police to appease their political masters, the CPM leaders.
Kshetra Samraksha Samiti workers attending a meeting, in the religious classroom, pertaining to (religious) classes they conduct. The classroom was totally mutilated and destroyed. Veda texts were thrown away. Idols of Gods including that of Sreekrishna were thrown away and broken. Four workers were stripped and dragged to the police vehicle.
Ordinary Hindus wonder if police will dare to enter the worship centres of any other community. But, when it is temple, they are sure that both Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) will protect them.
It is a shame that police used uncivilized tools like stones and steel rods to attack the workers. Binu, an active worker, suffers serious injuries in his face. BJP and all Hindu organisations have started angry agitations against the police atrocities in the temple. So far, no UDF or LDF leader has come out to protest.
