GUWAHATI: Ruling BJP will contest in 89 seats out of the 126 seats in the Assam assembly election, leaving 37 seats for its alliance partners. NDA alliance party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will contest in 26 seats, and Bodoland People’s Party (BPF) will contest in 11 seats in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) area. Speaking to reporters after a party meeting on candidature and alliance under the chairmanship of BJP President Nitin Navin in New Delhi, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the candidature-related discussions are almost finalised.

Along with that, seat-sharing with the alliance AGP and BPF has also been finalised in the meeting. As per the decision of the meeting, the BJP will contest in 89 seats, and 37 seats will be contested by two alliance parties, CM Sarma said. He also said that the BJP will give preference to a number of youth candidates along with a good number of female candidates. The BJP Parliamentary Board will meet tomorrow at 7 pm in Delhi and finalise the candidates. BJP will publish all 89 candidates’ names in a single list by tomorrow night, he added.

500 Namghariya met to bless CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

In an unprecedented event, ahead of the assembly election on April 9, over 500 Namghoriyas (Vaishnav religious leaders who lead Naam and Kirtan in Namghar) gathered in Bihpuriya, Lakhimpur district, to bless Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP government. Talking to the media, several Namghoriya said that the current chief minister and the BJP government have done tremendous work for the state as well as for the Vaishnava and Sanatan Dharma.

For his several bold decisions, Sanatan Dharma is safer in the state now, they said. The Namghoroyas also feel that the NDA government should continue in the state to make the state safer for the Sanatani. The Vaishnav leaders have decided to communicate with thousands of Namghars across Assam and will campaign for the BJP party in the coming election, said BJP leader Bhupen Borah.

It should be mentioned that the assembly election in Assam will be held on 9th April, before the Rongali Bihu in a single phase. The counting will be held on May 4, along with 4 other states that are also going to the polls. The last date of filing nominations for the single-phase election is on March 23. The ruling BJP said that the people of Assam are waiting to vote for the saffron party for its all-around development of the state over the last 10 years, and that the party will score a hat-trick of wins in 2026.
