According to media reports, the dispute reportedly began over the DJ music played during the event. A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by one of the victims, Akash Kumar. The FIR names 15 accused and mentions around 50 unidentified individuals, invoking provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the SC/ST Act. The incident occurred on the night of 23 February, and a copy of the FIR has been accessed by OpIndia.
As per the police account, the incident took place on Monday evening during a Kuaan Poojan ceremony at the residence of Akash Kumar, who belongs to the Dalit community. A Devi Jagran was also scheduled later that night, and family members and relatives were dancing to music played on a DJ system.
During the programme, some members of the Muslim community allegedly objected to the loud music, stating that it coincided with the time of namaz, and requested that the DJ be turned off. The complainant’s family complied and stopped the music.
However, after the namaz concluded, the DJ was switched on again, following which tensions reportedly escalated. An argument broke out between members of both communities, which allegedly turned into a physical altercation in which Dalit Hindus were assaulted. Videos of the clash later surfaced on social media and quickly went viral.
Allegations of house trespass and caste abuse
In his complaint, Akash alleged that dozens of men entered his residence, assaulted those present, and hurled caste-based slurs. He further claimed that the accused misbehaved with women inside the house during the incident. According to media reports, bricks were allegedly thrown during the clash, leaving one युवक injured and a woman reportedly struck in the eye.
Police officials stated that the situation is currently under control. SP City Shankar Prasad said that adequate police personnel have been deployed in the village to maintain law and order. Station House Officer (SHO) Neeraj Kumar Malik confirmed that an FIR has been registered and legal proceedings are underway.
FIR registered under BNS and SC/ST Act
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Akash Kumar under Sections 191(2), 191(3), 190, and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3(1)(s) and 3(1)(w) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The case names Gram Pradhan Moin, Matlub, Adil, Akram, Qasim, Firoz, Babar, Shamshad, Salman, Adil (son of Jamal), Fardeen, Arbaz, Asif, and Gulfam, along with around 50 unidentified persons as accused.
