Kalaburagi: Even as tensions from a recent clash during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj anniversary celebrations in Bagalkote were yet to subside, a similar incident was reported from Kalaburagi district on Saturday. A dispute over the DJ sound during a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj anniversary procession in Ravoor village of Chittapur taluk escalated into a clash between two communities, leaving several persons injured and prompting police action.

The incident occurred near Ganesh Katte in Ravoor village during celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. According to police, members of one community were dancing to high-volume DJ music during the procession when members of another community objected to the sound levels. “An argument broke out after some persons asked the organisers to lower the volume of the DJ. Within minutes, the situation escalated into a physical altercation,” a senior police officer said.

Eyewitnesses said the procession was moving through the village when a popular song was being played on the DJ system, and participants were dancing enthusiastically. Tensions flared after objections were raised, allegedly leading to heated exchanges between members of the two groups.

“The disagreement over the sound system quickly turned into stone pelting and assault using sticks. Around four to five people sustained minor injuries in the clash,” the officer added.

A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media. In one clip, children can be seen allegedly throwing stones during the unrest. Another video purportedly shows a boy standing on a terrace holding a stone in his hand as the clash unfolded below. Police said they are verifying the authenticity of the videos and identifying those involved.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, no formal complaint or counter-complaint was initially filed by members of either community. In view of this, PSI Tirumalesh of Wadi Police Station registered a suo motu case.

“We have registered a case under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against eight persons from both communities. Investigation is in progress,” the officer said.

Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police Addur Srinivasulu confirmed the development and appealed for calm. “During the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj anniversary procession, a clash occurred between two communities in Ravoor village. One person sustained injuries. As no formal complaint was received from either side, Wadi Police have registered a case against eight individuals. Further legal action will follow based on the findings,” he said.

Following the incident, police have intensified security in Ravoor village to prevent any further escalation. Personnel have been deployed as a precautionary measure, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

“We have stepped up patrolling in the area. Strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disturb peace,” the SP added.

Police officials urged residents not to believe or circulate unverified videos or rumours on social media, warning that stringent action would be taken against those spreading misinformation. The situation in Ravoor village is currently reported to be under control, with law enforcement maintaining vigil to ensure communal harmony.
