IMPHAL: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested two local drug smugglers from Churachandpur district and seized 7.31 kg of heroin valued at around Rs 15 crore on the international market from their possession, busting a trafficking module linked to Myanmar. The operation unfolded on January 7 near the India-Myanmar border. Acting on specific intelligence, NCB’s Imphal zone team coordinated with Assam Rifles to intercept a four-wheeler. Inside, they uncovered the contraband hidden in 638 plastic soap cases. Traffickers had exploited dense forest corridors in Manipur to evade police surveillance and security checkpoints, officials said. The arrests mark a significant blow to cross-border narcotics smuggling in the region.
On the other hand, on January 7, during an operation in the area between Maukot Village and Singngat of Churachandpur District, a combined team of security forces and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials arrested two drug smugglers, Hangkhankap and Khupjamlal of Myanmar.
The DRI-Police team seized a huge quantity of contraband from their possession. A total of 4.3 kgs of heroin powder contained in 320 soap cases, a four-wheeler Bolero bearing registration no. MN01S-1618, and a two-wheeler Bajaj Avenger bearing registration no. DL10-SH-3331 were seized by the team.
Further, a case has been taken up by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation. Meanwhile, on January 8, Security Forces, along with the Forest Department, destroyed twenty acres of poppy cultivation at Thinghangjang Hill under Churachandpur police station in Churachandpur district. Two huts found at the plantation site were set ablaze.
