Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh is going to hold the Panchayat elections for the first time and ruling BJP is much ahead of the opposition in the first ever Panchayat elections of the state.  In an extraordinary political achievement, Arunachal Pradesh BJP has witnessed one of the largest unopposed victories in the state’s electoral history, with thousands of local body representatives securing their seats even before polling began. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the overwhelming beneficiary of this sweeping mandate, prompting celebrations across party ranks and strong messages of gratitude from the state leadership.

According to official figures, 58 Zilla Parishad Members (ZPMs), 4 corporators, and an astonishing 5,037 Gram Panchayat Members (GPMs) have been elected unopposed. The sheer scale of uncontested victories has drawn significant attention, reflecting what party leaders describe as a “clear and decisive endorsement of the BJP’s governance model which is based on development of all sections of people of the state”

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed deep appreciation to the people of Arunachal, saying their confidence in the government’s work had “spoken even before the first vote was cast.” He noted that the mandate symbolises the public’s trust in the state’s development track record and the administration’s efforts to reform governance at the grassroots level. Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed significant development since 2014, with the double engine governments creating infrastructures and opportunities for the people.

“This unprecedented mandate reflects the people’s unshakable trust in the BJP’s model of development and good governance,” CM Khandu said in his message. “My heartfelt gratitude to the people of Arunachal. Your overwhelming support strengthens our resolve to serve with even greater dedication and commitment.”

CM Khandu also acknowledged the contribution of the party’s national leadership in shaping the political climate that led to such a commanding outcome. He credited the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president J.P. Nadda, and the state unit president Kaling Moyong, saying their leadership had helped usher in “a new chapter of progress for Arunachal Pradesh.”

Internal sources within the party view the unopposed sweep as a consolidation of the BJP’s position at the village and district levels—areas where political influence often hinges on direct engagement with communities. Analysts note that the scale of uncontested seats points to both the ruling party’s organisational strength and a fragmented opposition that struggled to field candidates in many regions.

As the state prepares for the remaining phases of the local body elections, the BJP appears set for another commanding performance. For now, the unopposed verdict has already signalled a decisive start, setting the tone for the political landscape in the months ahead.
