Patna: In a strong message to anti-social elements allegedly involved in drug (smack) supplying, police in Kishanganj have demolished over a dozen illegal impermanent settlements (huts) belonging to smack suppliers on November 27.

The action was initiated after the police received inputs about drug suppliers illegally encroaching lands at Mela ground and bus stand area of the town. The said suppliers were reportedly selling smack from these very illegal settlements.

A police team with the help of officials from Municipal Corporation on Thursday morning demolished more than a dozen such impermanent structures being erected illegally.

Officials hinted that action against drug suppliers will continue in coming times as well. The action was taken as part of the state-wide drive against illegal encroachment.

Significantly, the development comes on the heels of announcement made by the state’s home minister and deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary who on Tuesday announced that the government has identified 400 mafias and their properties will soon be confiscated.

Choudhary noted that the government will carry out the work of good governance as established by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He stressed that good governance, action against mafias and speedy trial will be the top three priorities of the government.

Meanwhile state’s Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar on Wednesday informed that a list of around 400 mafias has been submitted before the court and action will be initiated against them following the court’s order.

The DGP further informed that a separate list of around 1200 people with criminal background is also being prepared and will be submitted before the court.

Kumar also informed about formation of the anti-romeo squad. He said that policemen will be deputed outside schools and colleges to prevent cases of molestation and create a safe environment for students. He noted that the department will soon procure 2000 scooters and depute personnel outside educational institutions for this.
