Raipur: As many as 43 Maoists have surrendered before authorities in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur and Rajnandgaon districts on November 26, officials said.

As per details, a group of 41 Maoists including 12 female cadres turned themselves before police, announcing their return to the mainstream in Maoist-hit Bijapur district.

Those who laid down arms were inspired by the state’s rehabilitation policy, informed officials. The surrendered Naxals were associated with various units of the Maoists outfit and carrying a cumulative reward of Rs 1.19 crore.

The surrender took place before senior officials of the police and central forces under the ‘Poona Margem’ initiative. They (surrendered Maoists) were provided a financial assistance of Rs 50000 each, as provisioned in the state’s rehabilitation policy.

With surrender of 41 Maoists on Wednesday, the total number of surrender in Bijapur district this year has reached to 790, marking a significant achievement for security forces.

Maoist couple carrying 20 lakh reward surrender in Khairagarh

Meanwhile, a Maoist couple carrying a collective reward of Rs 20 lakhs also surrendered before officials in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai on November 26.

The surrendered couple has been identified as area committee member Dhanush alias Munna and his wife Roni alias Tule.

According to details, Dhanush was part of the Maoist’s technical unit and a key member of the group’s communication network of Maad division. He was carrying a bounty of Rs 14 lakh on his head.

Dhanush’s wife Roni on the other hand was a member of the Maoist’s Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone. She had worked closely with Maoist’s central committee member Ramder. She was active in the Tada-Malajkhand area and carrying a bounty of Rs 6 lakh on her head.

The couple decided to join mainstream after security forces intensified campaign on the bordering areas of Chhattisgarh, targeting the members of the Maoist’s MMC zone.

It is to be noted that the battle against Maoists has reached its final stages with officials expressing confidence to eradicate the Maoist menace before the Union Government’s declared deadline of March next year.

Notably, more than 2200 Maoists have surrendered before police in Chhattisgarh since December 2023 marking a major turnaround in the tribal dominated state once identified with red terror.

Over 450 Maoists were also killed during separate encounters that took place between security forces and Naxals in Chhattisgarh in the same time period. This include neutralisation of several top Maoist leaders including Maoist’s former general secretary Nambala Kesava Rao and notorious Maoist commander Madvi Hidma, the only tribal member in the Maoist’s central committee.
