The Dehradun Police in a major breakthrough under Operation Kalanemi in Uttarakhand, have arrested a Bangladeshi national living illegally in India using forged Hindu identity documents, along with his Indian partner who allegedly helped him obtain them. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh confirmed that Mamun Hasan (28), originally a resident of Meherpur district in Bangladesh, had been living under the fabricated identity of Sachin Chauhan.
Police said Hasan managed to secure a fake Aadhaar card, PAN card, and other identity documents with the help of Reena Chauhan, his partner from Tyuni, who had earlier been married to a man named Sachin Chauhan. Based on a tip-off, police initiated verification and confirmed Hasan’s real identity through Bangladesh authorities.

According to investigators, Hasan and Reena met on Facebook before he first entered India on a tourist visa in 2019 to meet her. After returning briefly to Bangladesh, he re-entered India in 2021 and 2022. In 2022, Hasan allegedly took Reena illegally across the India–Bangladesh border, where the two married, before sneaking back into India to live as husband and wife in various rented houses in Dehradun.
Police detained the duo from the Nehru Colony area on Thursday. During questioning, Reena admitted she assisted Hasan in obtaining fake documents using her former husband’s name. Hasan later worked as a bouncer at a local club, presenting himself as Sachin Chauhan.
The SSP said those who assisted in fabricating the identity documents are being traced. “Strict action will be taken against everyone involved in enabling the accused to secure fake Indian IDs,” he said.
A case has been registered against the two under IPC sections 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120B, along with Section 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, pertaining to illegal stay and use of forged documents.
SSP Singh said the arrests are part of Operation Kalanemi, launched to crack down on foreign nationals living in Uttarakhand under false identities. A total of 17 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested so far, with nine already deported and seven others jailed following legal proceedings.
