GUWAHATI: Bizarre incident sparks row in Dhubri, Assam. An Assam college girl has been threatened by Islamist professor Shahjahan Hussain Sarkar for working with Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The processor in question also threatened to destroy her future.
The incident took place in BN College in Dhubri. BSc first semester student Parinita Roy joined the ABVP unit of the college for the student union election. But after her joining, her HoD, Shahjahan Hussain Sarkar, started threatening her for her choice to join ABVP. He asked her to quit ABVP or face dire consequences. Parinita said,”Sir called me to the department and asked me to quit ABVP, otherwise threatened to deduct my practical examination marks.”
“Leave ABVP or we’ll cut attendance, deduct marks & destroy your future! Remember it is an autonomous college now, I can do whatever I wish.” ” Professor Shahjahan threatened.
This is not the end. Professor Shahjahan visited her home on Tuesday and threatened the student’s family. He said, “You are a girl, and you should try to get a government job, don’t try to indulge in leadership in college. ABVP is an ordinary organisation. Your future will be ruined.”
The ABVP wing of BN College has staged a protest in front of the college against the bizarre activity of the Islamist professor. The victim student demands a written apology from Professor Shahjahan. She wants an assurance from the principal that no marks will be deducted unethically on her exams. But after her written complaint, Principal Fahim Ali has not taken any steps against the accused professor.
The victim student is considering lodging an FIR against Professor Shahjahan if the college authority doesn’t give her justice. Many Hindu students of BN College alleged that several Islamist professors, including the principal, are working against the student union ABVP. They have openly threatened many Hindu students to quit ABVP or face action like deducting marks, backlog in subjects, etc. The students demand immediate intervention of the education department and give the students due justice and freedom to follow their own choices.
