A major online controversy has erupted in Kerala after celebrated Malayalam film-maker Major Ravi announced his new patriotic movie “Operation Sindoor”, based on the Pahalgam killings and Bharat’s retaliatory strike. Even before the film’s first schedule, a coordinated social media campaign is attempting to discredit the project, an “attempt to kill the movie before its birth”, according to the director.
The social media trolling and attack on Major Ravi on X show reflect a trend that mirrors recent digital attacks on patriotic Malayalam cinema.
Major Ravi alleges that several of the attacking handles “clearly appear to be Jihadis”, using abusive and unprintable terms. A user identified as Jaseel Muhammed prominently spearheads the attack, declaring he will boycott the “upcoming M-Ravi Mohanlal film”.
Posts calling for a “Mohanlal boycott of Major Ravi films”, with some handles urging the Kerala superstar not to collaborate with the director again.
However, Major Ravi clarifies that real Mohanlal fans would never fall for such tactics. He says the campaign is driven by “ten to fifteen individuals who depend on fan associations for livelihood”. Recalling his past support to fans, he stresses that he respects Mohanlal deeply but does not depend on him professionally. Similarly, he respects the Prime Minister for being “non-corrupt and committed to the nation”.
An RSS supporter and BJP state committee member, Major Ravi has directed seven patriotic films, including Keerthi Chakra, Mission 90 Days, Kurukshetra, Kandahar, Karma Yodha and Picket 43.
Speaking to Organiser en route to Kashmir, the location for his current shoot, he says the attacks began instantly after the film was announced.
He alleges that Jihadi forces fear that Operation Sindoor will expose the terror networks behind the Pahalgam killings. He further claims that certain opposition leaders “paid by Deep State icon George Soros” are also rattled, as the film may reveal how anti-India groups worked to disrupt Kashmir tourism and destabilise the Modi Government.
“These groups want to stop tourism in Kashmir. Without unrest, they cannot bring Congress back to power,” he said.
Major Ravi also reiterates that Jihadi groups influenced the inclusion of scenes in Empuran showing Hindus attacking Muslims with trishuls, which he claims helped trigger communal tensions. Since he exposed these influences, he alleges that BBC-backed social media handles and Prithviraj’s fan groups have joined the anti-Ravi campaign.
Major Ravi’s films have consistently faced targeted backlash from Islamist groups and political fronts opposed to pro-national narratives.
Keerthi Chakra showcased Army anti-terror operations and became a blockbuster with widespread chanting of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.
Mission 90 Days, starring Mammootty, was based on his real-life commando role in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination probe.
Kandahar, featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Mohanlal, told the story of the IC-814 hijacking.
He hopes authorities will closely monitor the “anti-Operation Sindoor” ecosystem, warning that such networks are “anti-national”.
In the last few years, films based on real incidents, The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story, Razakar, Bengal Files, and the Uri surgical strike film, have become major national talking points. These films have shown the truth-based stories, real history of India, Islamist terror in Kerala, and political appeasement narratives in Bharat.
According to the director, such films have educated the masses, connected the younger generation with suppressed historical facts, and cautioned society about political and Jihadi strategies that have threatened India for centuries.
Kerala continues to remain polarised, with patriotism often mislabelled as Hindutva or fascism by critics of RSS, BJP and VHP. The ruling CPM-led LDF and opposition Congress-led UDF compete for minority vote banks, creating what Major Ravi describes as an “unholy contest”.
Islamic fundamentalist organisations rarely condemn terror attacks like the Pahalgam killings, he asserts. They refuse to acknowledge that terrorists confirmed victims were Hindus before killing them and also oppose Operation Sindoor, a trend visible across social media analytics.
