Born on July 18, 1961, in Rebarthi village, Maddur mandal (now in Jangaon district, Telangana), Ande Sri was orphaned young and had no formal education. Despite these challenges, he emerged as a strong voice of the people, composing thousands of poems and folk-inspired lyrics that captured the struggles, aspirations, and spirit of rural Telangana. His work resonated deeply during the Telangana statehood movement (2000s), where his 12-stanza anthem became a rallying cry for millions, symbolizing the fight for reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh. The song was officially adopted as the Telangana state anthem in 2014 after formation of the state.
