The flag that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist atop the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on November 25 is being crafted in Ahmedabad by a company that specialises in manufacturing parachutes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet the workers and engineers involved in the construction of the Ram Mandir during his visit. The flag to be hoisted atop the temple will be made using special silk threads and parachute fabric, chosen for their durability against sun, rain, and strong winds. Its quality has been finalised in consultation with senior Army officers. Designed to withstand humidity and temperature variations, the 22-foot-long and 11-foot-wide flag will be mounted on a 42-foot pole fixed atop the 161-foot spire of the Mandir.
The flagpole will feature a 360-degree rotating chamber based on ball bearings, allowing it to endure wind speeds of up to 60 km per hour without damage, according to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Preparations are in full swing in Ayodhya for the flag-hoisting ceremony, which will be attended by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Prime Minister will first offer prayers at Hanumangarhi before proceeding to the Ram Janmabhoomi complex for the event.
The Trust has commissioned an Ahmedabad-based company, specialised in manufacturing parachutes, to produce the flag. Senior RSS functionary Gopal Rao is overseeing the arrangements for the five-day ceremony, beginning November 21. Rao said the Prime Minister is also expected to view the Sapta Mandir and 3D murals depicting scenes from the Ramayana.
“He may also interact with the workers, construction agency representatives, and engineers engaged in building the Mandir,” Rao added. As a contingency measure, the Trust has ordered additional flags from other states as well. “Apart from Ahmedabad, flags are being made in several parts of the country. Seating arrangements have been made for around 8,000 people at the ceremony,” he said.
Representatives from various communities across eastern Uttar Pradesh have been invited to attend. All major preparations are scheduled to be completed by November 16, with final touches to follow in the subsequent week.
“The saffron flag, bearing symbols of the Sun, Om, and the Kovidar tree, as described in the Valmiki Ramayana, will be hoisted atop the Ram Mandir,” Rao said, adding that the Trust will also set up seven locations to serve food and prasad to devotees.
