Delivering an address at the sixth convocation ceremony of Karnavati University, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, the Chief of Air Staff, urged India’s youth to rise above divisions of caste, religion, and social barriers, and instead focus on unity, compassion, and teamwork to rebuild India’s lost global stature.

Calling upon young graduates to become torchbearers of moral and national renewal, the IAF Chief said, “We were once a leader in the world, but we lagged behind over the centuries. If India is to regain its rightful place, it will be people like you, the youth, who will make that happen.”

Speaking before a packed audience at the university campus in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Air Chief Marshal Singh emphasised that the country’s strength lies in its unity, not its divisions.

“Respect each other’s sentiments. There should be no social divide, because whatever divides us is not good. The same blood flows in our veins, and we all belong to the same land. There should not be any discrimination based on caste or religion. Only then will our country progress,” he said, drawing loud applause from the gathering.

The Air Chief’s remarks, grounded in simplicity and sincerity, resonated deeply with students at a time when the call for inclusivity and national integrity carries special significance.

In his address, Singh reminded students that before aspiring to become professionals, leaders, or achievers, they must first strive to become “good human beings” rooted in values of compassion, honesty, integrity, and selflessness.

“Whatever you achieve in life, wherever you go, always remember your roots, your parents, your teachers, and the values they instilled in you. Stay humble and grounded. There are no shortcuts to success, only hard work and sincerity will take you forward,” he said.

Drawing from his decades of service in the Indian Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Singh underlined the importance of teamwork and discipline, comparing society to a structure built on mutual responsibility.

“Teamwork is very important. We are all part of a big system, like bricks in a wall. Each of us has a role to play. If we want to make India great, we must first make ourselves better human beings,” he said.

Reiterating the timeless bond between citizens and soldiers, he quoted: “Every soldier is a citizen in uniform, and every citizen is a soldier without uniform.”

The Chief encouraged young Indians to dedicate time and effort to nation-building, urging them to channel their education and skills toward collective progress.

Singh’s message to the graduating students was both patriotic and introspective. He reminded them that India, once a cradle of knowledge and civilisation, had lagged in recent centuries due to social, moral, and cultural divides. He appealed to the new generation to revive the spirit of excellence and leadership that once defined the nation.

“We have to make this nation great again. If we are to reclaim our global standing, it will not come through wealth or power alone, but through our values, unity, and sense of duty,” he asserted.

During the ceremony, Karnavati University conferred an honorary Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) degree upon Air Chief Marshal Singh in recognition of his exceptional leadership and service to the nation.

As the convocation concluded, the hall resounded with applause, not just for the graduating students, but for the Air Chief’s stirring reminder that India’s real strength lies not in its diversity of caste or creed, but in the shared heartbeat of its people.
