Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepti Sharma etched her name in history with a record-shattering performance that powered India to its first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title. The 28-year-old all-rounder from Agra, who represents Uttar Pradesh Police under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s “Kushal Khiladi Yojana”, delivered a performance of a lifetime scoring 215 runs and taking 22 wickets across the tournament, earning her the Player of the Tournament award.

Deepti’s crowning glory came in the final at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, where she produced a feat unmatched in cricketing history a fifty and a five-wicket haul in a World Cup knockout match, a first for any player, male or female. Her figures of 5 for 39 and her crucial 54-run knock were instrumental in India’s 52-run victory over South Africa, sealing a long-awaited triumph that sent the nation into celebration.

The official account of the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) hailed the all-rounder’s extraordinary achievement, tweeting:

“Uttar Pradesh Police’s Pride on the Global Stage! Deepti Sharma delivered an outstanding performance with 215 runs and 22 wickets, earning her the Player of the Tournament award bringing pride to the entire country, state, and Uttar Pradesh Police. Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to @Deepti_Sharma06, appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police under the sports quota as part of Hon’ble Chief Minister @myogiadityanath Ji’s Skilled Athlete Scheme!”

Uttar Pradesh DGP Rajeev Krishna personally congratulated Deepti for her “exemplary and historic performance,” emphasizing that her global success reflected the Chief Minister’s vision to empower sportspersons through institutional support.

Deepti was appointed DSP in January 2025 under the sports quota through the ‘Kushal Khiladi Yojana,’ an initiative by the Yogi Adityanath government to recognize and reward athletes who bring laurels to the state and the nation.

Speaking to media after the final, a visibly elated Deepti said, “I am feeling really good. Since the day we played the first game of the World Cup, I performed exactly how I wanted to as a senior player. There cannot be anything better than giving such a performance in the final and lifting the trophy.”

Reflecting on India’s decades-long wait for a global title, she added, “It took us really long to win the World Cup, but what God has written for you happens at the destined time and I think it was written to take place in India.”

Her performance didn’t just secure India’s maiden Women’s World Cup but also underscored the rise of women athletes from Uttar Pradesh a state now emerging as a sporting powerhouse under the government’s athlete welfare schemes.
