Bengaluru’s upscale Indiranagar locality witnessed a shocking case of sexual harassment early Saturday (Nov 1) morning when a 33-year-old woman was targeted by an unidentified man while walking her dog.

According to police, the woman was on her routine walk when the accused approached her from behind, called her “Madam,” and, as she turned around, exposed himself and began masturbating in public.

The incident left the woman shaken. “She was shocked and ran back home immediately,” a police official said, quoting the complaint.

Reports suggest that after fleeing the scene, the woman informed her sister, who then told a friend about the incident. Encouraged by them, she approached the Indiranagar Police Station and filed a formal complaint.

An FIR was registered under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for public indecency and sexual harassment. The police have begun a search for the accused, using CCTV footage from the area to identify him.

Speaking to reporters, an investigating officer said, “We are scanning CCTV cameras in the locality and nearby lanes to trace the suspect. Such incidents create fear among morning walkers, and we are treating this case with utmost seriousness.”

Police teams have been deployed in and around Indiranagar, and additional patrolling has been ordered during early morning hours to ensure women’s safety.

The incident has sparked public outrage on social media, with many Bengaluru residents calling for stronger surveillance and quicker police response in the city’s residential zones.

Women’s rights activists have demanded that local authorities increase street lighting, CCTV coverage, and police patrolling in early morning and late evening hours when harassment cases are more frequent.

This incident adds to a worrying trend of public indecency and sexual harassment cases reported in Bengaluru’s urban neighbourhoods. Similar cases have been reported in recent months, raising questions about the safety of women even in well-policed, upscale localities.

Bengaluru Police have urged residents to immediately report any suspicious activity or harassment incidents.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have assured that the accused will be identified and brought to justice soon.
