US President Donald Trump has made a big assertion by exclaiming that Pakistan is testing nuclear weapons in a continuous manner. He said this while defending his administration’s decision regarding the order given to the US forces to test the nuclear weapons. President Trump, while speaking to an interview on the CBS media platform.
The US President said that nuclear-powered nations are continuously testing nuclear weapons. It just doesn’t get reported or publicized across media platforms. Both China and Pakistan are silently testing nuclear weapons in addition to Russia and North Korea, Trump asserted. In this backdrop, Trump justified the US decision to test nuclear weapons, after a moratorium of a long 33 years. “It is appropriate that the US also does it”, Trump exclaimed.
Russia and China are testing nuclear weapons regularly, but they don’t talk about it, as it is a closed and authoritative society, thus reporters in those countries don’t write about it. But, the United States of America is an “open society” and things work in a different fashion, where nuclear weapon testing is openly talked about, President Trump reiterated. “Certainly North Korea is been testing, Pakistan has been testing”, Trump added.
“You have to see how they work. The reason I’m saying testing is because Russia announced that they were going to be doing a test. If you notice, North Korea is constantly testing. Other countries are testing. We’re the only country that doesn’t test. And I don’t want to be the only country that doesn’t test,” Trump stated while justifying his actions to test nuclear weapons. Trump also threatened that the United States has enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 150 times.
“They(the countries with nuclear weapons) don’t go and tell you about it. They test way underground where people don’t know exactly what’s happening with the test. You feel a little bit of a vibration”, Trump exclaimed further. Donald Trump added that the nuclear explosions are undertaken in an extreme covert fashion that the nuclear waves go undetected or unnoticed even by the global nuclear monitoring stations and detectors.
Trump yet again asserts on ending India-Pak conflict
In the same interview, US President Donald Trump yet again re-emphasized that he mediated and ended the India-Pakistan war in May 2025. “India was going to have a nuclear war with Pakistan. The Prime Minister of Pakistan stood up. If Donald Trump didn’t get involved many millions of people would have been dead. It was a bad war. Aeroplanes were shot down all over the place. I told both of them, If you guys don’t stop you will not do any business with the US”, Trump made his vague and baseless claims again.
These statements illustrate growing inclination between Pakistan and the United States to seek hegemonic aspirations and other personal deeds. In the recent Gaza Peace Summit at Sharm-el Sheikh, Egypt, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised US President Donald Trump unapologetically for ending the conflict between India and Pakistan. On the other hand, US President Donald Trump has self-credited a million times for ending the war between India and Pakistan, apparently without any evidence.
Meanwhile, India has repeatedly downgraded any third party mediation with respect to resolving bilateral issues. On the floor of the Parliament External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar had presented a clear timeline reiterating the conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. Accordingly, no phone conversation took place between both the leaders from April 22 to June 17. Thus, the scope of Trump mediation in the India-Pakistan issue was outrightly rejected. India is firm on its strategic autonomy and sovereign decision making credentials. Unlike Pakistan, India’s sovereignty is not for sale to seek minimal hegemonic or selfish geopolitical motives.
Pakistan testing nuclear weapons, raises security concerns for India?
Donald Trump’s assertion that Pakistan is covertly testing nuclear weapons indeed sends a strong security message to India. Trump has also said that China too is testing nuclear weapons. This adds on to India’s concerns and creates a two-front trouble for India. China reportedly has 600 plus nuclear weapon stockpiles and the number is set to reach 1000 by 2030. On the other hand, Pakistan has 170 nuclear weapon stockpiles and as per the estimate it is set to escalate to 200 weapons by 2028. This nuclear data raises concerns regarding India’s security across its north-western and north-eastern border. Will this be problematic for India and how can India establish a strong nuclear deterrence is a serious question.
India, also being a nuclear-powered nation, has solid strategic deterrence capability with respect to nuclear attacks and wars. It’s not an easy act to explode nuclear weapons in someone’s backyard. Specifically with respect to Pakistan’s nuclear bluff since decades targeting India, post Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly asserted that India will not tolerate nuclear blackmail and Pakistan cannot try to contend or curtail India on the grounds of being a nuclear power.
“India will no longer tolerate nuclear blackmail. If the enemy dares to commit any more misadventure, the Indian Armed Forces will give them a befitting reply. India has decided that blood and water will not flow together”, PM Modi had strongly mentioned. Thus, India will defend and protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security from the enemy nations beyond the horizon, devoid of any illicit nuclear blackmail. However, strategic vigilance is always at a heightened state given the nature of the neighbours.
