NEW DELHI: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has once again proven that it believes not in the politics of promises, but in the politics of action. The long-pending demand for the reopening of the Railway Reservation Counter inside the JNU campus has now become a reality, thanks to ABVP’s consistent and dedicated efforts. This marks a historic achievement for thousands of JNU students, directly addressing their day-to-day travel and accessibility needs.
Last month, an ABVP delegation met with the Union Railway Minister and submitted a detailed memorandum on the issue. The memorandum highlighted how students, particularly those from far-flung areas, had been facing continuous difficulties in booking railway tickets. Given the technical and financial hurdles of online and agent-based booking systems, the delegation emphasised that an on-campus reservation facility was an urgent necessity. The Railway Ministry responded positively, and after coordination with the university administration, it has now been officially decided that the Railway Reservation Counter in JNU will reopen soon.
This is not merely the restoration of a facility but a testament to the students’ persistent struggle and ABVP’s unwavering commitment. The organisation worked relentlessly at every level, from maintaining constant dialogue with ministries to pressing for administrative action, reflecting its responsible, result-oriented leadership.
ABVP views this achievement within the broader framework of JNU student politics. The organisation believes that the purpose of student politics should not be confined to ideology, but should instead bring about practical improvements in the lives of students. With this conviction, ABVP has reshaped the campaign narrative in this year’s student union elections toward constructive and student-focused governance.
Vikas Patel, ABVP’s presidential candidate, stated, “It’s time to steer JNU’s politics toward real development. Our goal is to solve students’ problems and create a university culture grounded in dialogue, accessibility, and respect. The reopening of the railway counter stands as proof that ABVP doesn’t just speak, it delivers. This year, we are receiving overwhelming support from students, and ABVP is on track to win all four central panel seats in JNUSU.”
Tanya Kumari, ABVP’s vice-presidential candidate, added, “It’s time for JNU’s discussions to center around JNU’s students and their rights, not on global political narratives like Palestine or the US issues such as women’s safety, health counseling, mental health support, extended library hours, and campus cleanliness are at the heart of our agenda. The reopening of the Railway Reservation Counter is a reflection of ABVP’s student-centered politics and its unwavering commitment to student welfare.”
She further emphasised, “Our politics is grounded in the warmth of nationalism and the civility of dialogue. We believe in thoughtful solutions, not ideological confrontation.”
Owing to such achievements and continuous grassroots work, ABVP is receiving unprecedented support across the JNU campus. Students, impressed by the organisation’s tangible initiatives, are openly expressing their support. The overall campus mood indicates that ABVP is poised for a full majority in this year’s JNUSU elections, with its candidates leading strongly on all four central panel seats.
This trust among students has not been built through slogans, but through consistent action. Over the years, the ABVP has worked tirelessly to improve transportation facilities, expand health services, ensure transparency in scholarship distribution, and promote accountability within the university administration. The reopening of the Railway Reservation Counter stands as a symbol of ABVP’s politics of construction over confrontation.
This moment is particularly significant in JNU’s history because it shows that when student politics is driven by service and dedication, meaningful change follows. ABVP has once again proven that true leadership lies in being the students’ voice, reaching the government, and returning with solutions.
The reopening of the Railway Reservation Counter is not just the restoration of a facility; it is a symbol of ABVP’s student-first, solution-driven, and accountable politics, leading JNU from conflict to constructive progress.
