ICC Women Cricket World Cup: History created by women of Bharat at stroke of midnight, beat South Africa by 52 runs

History was scripted at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on the night of November 2 as India lifted their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling finale that blended redemption, resilience, and raw brilliance. In a match that will be etched in Indian sporting folklore, Shafali Verma’s explosive 87 and Deepti Sharma’s all-round masterclass — a fifty and a five-wicket haul — powered the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side to glory, ending decades of heartbreak from the 2005 and 2017 finals

Indian women cricket team beat South Africa in ICC Women Cricket World Cup 2025

NEW DELHI: Indian women team created history as they have become world champions as they defeated South Africa in the Women World Cup Cricket 2025 final by 52 runs. The women in blue led by Captain Harmanperet Kaur successfully defended   298 runs. The star of the match turned out to be Deepti Sharma who scored half century and also picked up five wicket haul.

The Indian Women Cricket team were put into bat first. Shafali Verma scored a magnificent 87 and Deepti Sharma scored 58 runs.

The South African team fight was led by their captain Laura Wolvaardt  who scored 101 runs.

Team India fought back to become the champions as they were at the bottom in the group initially and then they fought their way to become the champions. In the semi-final, the women

Deepti Sharma won the player of the tournament for scoring more than 200 runs and 20 wickets in the tournament. Shafali Varma won the player of the match award.

Earlier the South African team got team India restricted to 298 after they got to a flying start. Initially, it felt that the Indian Women Cricket Team would score more than 300 runs as there was an opening partnership of 104 runs between between Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. In the middle, team India lost some quick wickets, however, things did stabilize and they set a target of 298 runs for South Africa.

What is heartening to see in that ten of the players were playing for the first time in the final of Women Cricket World Cup 2025.
