Uttar Pradesh to create 76th district named after Kalyan Singh: A tribute to the “Hindu Hriday Samrat”

Uttar Pradesh will soon create its 76th district, Kalyan Singh Nagar, out of Aligarh and Bulandshahr to honour former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, who was fondly remembered as the “Hindu Hriday Samrat.” This decision aims to improve governance while paying tribute to one of the UP’s most influential leaders. The proposal is in its final stage and will soon go to the state cabinet for approval

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced its decision to create the state’s 76th district, which will be named after Kalyan Singh, the late former Chief Minister and revered leader often hailed as the “Hindu Hriday Samrat.” The decision is being viewed as both an administrative step and an emotional tribute. It aims to honour Singh’s lasting legacy in the state’s political and cultural landscape.

According to official sources, the proposed Kalyan Singh Nagar district will be carved out of areas from the existing Aligarh and Bulandshahr districts in western Uttar Pradesh. The region holds deep emotional and historical ties to Kalyan Singh, as it encompasses Atrauli, his birthplace and political stronghold. The new district will reportedly include Atrauli and Gangiri tehsils from Aligarh, along with Dibai tehsil from Bulandshahr, making it a region that truly reflects the life and legacy of the leader it is named after.

The proposal, currently in its final stages, will soon be presented before the state cabinet for formal approval. Once approved, the government will issue an official notification delineating the district’s boundaries, administrative headquarters, and associated infrastructure plans. The move is part of the Yogi Adityanath government’s broader strategy to enhance administrative efficiency and bring governance closer to people living in remote and developing areas of the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the decision as a “fitting tribute” to a leader who transformed the political landscape of Uttar Pradesh. “Kalyan Singh ji dedicated his entire life to public service, cultural pride, and good governance. Naming a district after him is our way of keeping his ideals alive and ensuring that his contribution continues to inspire future generations,” the Chief Minister said.

The decision carries deep symbolic importance. Kalyan Singh, who served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice in 1991-92 and again from 1997-99 was among the most influential political figures in the state’s post-independence history. A long-time member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Singh played a pivotal role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, standing firm on his ideological convictions even during politically turbulent times. His leadership was marked by discipline, development-oriented governance, and a people-first approach that earned him the admiration of millions.

Beyond his political legacy, Kalyan Singh’s life was deeply intertwined with the cultural and spiritual ethos of Uttar Pradesh. His devotion to Bhagwan Ram, simplicity in public life, and firm administrative hand during times of social tension made him a respected figure across communities. He was affectionately called the “Hindu Hriday Samrat” the “Emperor of Hindu Hearts” for his emotional connection with the people and his steadfast advocacy for cultural nationalism.

The creation of Kalyan Singh Nagar is not just about redrawing administrative boundaries; it’s about immortalizing the spirit of a leader who reshaped the identity of Uttar Pradesh through conviction and service. The new district is expected to improve administrative accessibility and accelerate development in the included regions. Locals from Atrauli, Dibai, and surrounding areas have long demanded a separate district for better governance and quicker access to government offices. The move will bring public services, police administration, and welfare schemes closer to people’s doorsteps, while also boosting local infrastructure, education, and employment opportunities.

There are views that the creation of Kalyan Singh Nagar as part of Uttar Pradesh’s larger administrative expansion strategy. Over the years, the state has gradually increased the number of districts to ensure better governance, with the last one Maa Shakumbhari Nagar created in 2021. With Uttar Pradesh’s vast population and geographical spread, new districts are often seen as essential for improving administrative reach and governance outcomes.

By naming the district after Kalyan Singh, the Yogi Adityanath government has paid homage to one of the BJP’s most respected leaders while also acknowledging the sentiment of the people from his home region. It also aligns with the BJP’s consistent effort to celebrate leaders who have contributed significantly to the party’s growth and to India’s socio-political transformation.

The formal inauguration of the district is expected to take place after cabinet approval and subsequent administrative preparations. Once notified, Kalyan Singh Nagar will become the 76th district of Uttar Pradesh, symbolizing not only an administrative milestone but also the continuation of a political legacy deeply rooted in faith, reform, and public service.

For the people of western Uttar Pradesh, especially those from Atrauli, this announcement evokes pride and nostalgia. For the state, it signifies progress through remembrance, a perfect blend of governance and gratitude.

As the government plans to give shape to this new district, Kalyan Singh Nagar will stand as a living monument to a leader who rose from humble beginnings to command the respect of an entire nation. A man who dedicated his life to the cause of truth, justice, and faith in Bharat Mata.
