SABRIMALA: In a major breakthrough in the Sabarimala gold loot case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has seized key documents from the Tiruvitamcoor Devaswom Board (TDB) headquarters, shedding new light on the gold covering of the Dwarapalaka idols at the famous Sabarimala temple. The recovered records reportedly contain crucial details about the quantity and utilisation of gold donated by UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya, believed to be around 30.8 kilograms.
For months, the SIT had been struggling to ascertain the exact volume of gold used for the idol covering due to the absence of official documentation. The Devaswom Board earlier informed investigators that the relevant records were untraceable and had appointed a Devaswom Commissioner and a Special Officer to locate them. However, following a detailed search operation at the Board’s headquarters, the SIT managed to recover the missing documents, marking a turning point in the investigation.
Sources suggest that the seized files may hold evidence critical to determining how much of the donated gold was actually used and whether any misappropriation or irregularities occurred in the process. The discovery has not only revived public interest in the long-standing controversy but also rekindled hope among Ayyappa devotees that the truth behind the alleged gold loot will finally emerge.
Officials close to the investigation said the SIT will now cross-verify the documented data with earlier records and statements to establish accountability and trace the missing gold, ensuring that those involved in the alleged malpractice are brought to justice.
