PM Modi slams Congress-RJD for insulting Chhathi Maiya: Vows to put Chhath Puja on UNESCO list

PM Modi slammed the Congress-RJD alliance of insulting Bihar’s faith by calling Chhath Puja a “drama,” vowing to include the festival in UNESCO’s heritage list. He branded the opposition as symbols of “Jungle Raj” and corruption, urging voters to back the NDA for Bihar’s progress and pride

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched one of his strongest attacks yet on the Congress-RJD alliance, accusing them of insulting Bihar’s cultural and spiritual pride by calling the sacred Chhath Puja a “drama” and “nautanki.”

The Prime Minister, addressing a massive election rally, thundered that the people of Bihar would never forgive the opposition for mocking Chhathi Maiya, the deity worshipped during the state’s most revered festival. “The women who observe such a long fast without water, who stand in the Ganga Ji and offer arghya to Surya Dev in the eyes of RJD and Congress, this is a drama. Will the mothers and sisters of Bihar tolerate this insult to Chhathi Maiya? No true Bihari will ever forget this,” PM Modi declared, drawing loud chants of “Modi, Modi!” from the crowd.

Linking the controversy to a deeper attack on Bihar’s identity, the Prime Minister accused the opposition parties of repeatedly disrespecting the state’s culture for political gain. “For the Congress and RJD, the worship of Chhathi Maiya is a nautanki. They insult the faith of millions just for votes,” he said. “Can anyone insult Chhathi Maiya for elections and expect the people of Bihar to remain silent?”

He went on to announce a national initiative to include Chhath Mahaparva in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List, calling it “an honour not just for Bihar but for the entire nation.” As part of the initiative, the Centre will organise a nationwide competition to promote new artists and songs on Chhath, with winners chosen by the public before next year’s festival.

“The youth learn the traditions of Chhath from the elders through songs. With that in mind, we will organise a competition across all languages to give new artists, lyricists, and singers a platform. The public will decide which songs they love most, and the winners will be honoured nationally,” PM Modi announced, framing the move as part of the government’s cultural revival agenda.

In a blistering critique of the opposition’s past governance, the Prime Minister described the RJD-Congress era as “Jungle Raj” characterised by five defining traits “Katta (gun), Krurta (cruelty), Katuta (bitterness), Kushasan (misrule), and Corruption.”

#WATCH | Muzaffarpur, Bihar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "… RJD-Congress can be identified by five things. What have the RJD-Congress done? “Where there is RJD-Congress, there is katta where cruelty rules, the law collapses. They spread bitterness, destroyed harmony, looted the poor, and let only a few families flourish,” he said. “Where there is corruption, social justice dies. These people cannot build Bihar they only know how to betray and divide it.”

PM Modi reminded the gathering of the dark days of Bihar’s lawlessness, contrasting it with what he termed the NDA’s record of stability, welfare, and progress. “When there is good governance, everyone prospers; but when there is Jungle Raj, everyone suffocates,” he said.

Turning his fire on Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, the Prime Minister ridiculed them as “the two Yuvraajs of corruption” one from India’s most corrupt family, and the other from Bihar’s most corrupt. “In this Bihar election, two Yuvraajs have opened shops of false promises. Both are out on bail in scams worth thousands of crores. They spend their days hurling abuses at PM Modi but what else can we expect from the naamdaars? Their meals don’t digest until they’ve cursed a kaamdar,” he quipped, in a characteristic jab that sent the crowd roaring.

PM Modi also invoked B. R. Ambedkar, accusing the Congress and RJD of hypocrisy and disrespect toward the architect of the Constitution. “They insulted Ambedkar. We respect and worship him we named our financial app BHIM to honour his legacy. But RJD places him at their feet. That is their mindset,” PM Modi charged, referencing a recent controversy over a photo involving RJD leaders.

Highlighting what he described as a groundswell of support for the NDA, PM Modi claimed that all major surveys were pointing to a historic defeat for the opposition alliance.

“Every survey is saying the same thing RJD and Congress are headed for their biggest defeat ever. Bihar’s youth, women, farmers, and fishermen are scripting a new history. These people are so desperate that even their supporters are laughing at their tall claims,” PM Modi said.

He praised Bihar’s rapid economic turnaround under NDA governance, citing the “GST Bachat Utsav” as a symbol of improved affordability and prosperity. “Last year, 50,000 motorcycles were sold in Bihar during the festive season. This year, that number is 1.5 lakh. Families are saving more, businesses are growing this is the result of good governance,” he added.

Promising a future of self-reliance and development, PM Modi asserted that the NDA’s vision was to ensure that Bihar’s youth would no longer need to migrate for work. “Bihar ke bete-beti ab palaayan nahi karega, Bihar mein hi kaam karega, Bihar mein hi naam karega,” he declared. “Our goal is to create opportunities for education, employment, healthcare, and irrigation right here in Bihar.”

He vowed to promote Bihar’s sweet language, rich culture, and global pride, asserting that the NDA alone can make Bihar developed, while the RJD-Congress alliance would drag it back into the darkness of corruption and chaos.
