The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Monday (October 27) arrested a 28-year-old man identified as Zuber Hangargikar from Pune’s Kondhwa area in connection with suspected terrorist activities. The arrest came after a series of coordinated raids conducted across multiple locations in the city.
According to officials, the operation was part of an ongoing investigation into individuals allegedly involved in or supporting terrorist activities. The accused was produced before a local court and remanded to police custody till November 4 for further interrogation.
Earlier Raids and Evidence Seized
The ATS had earlier conducted extensive searches on October 9, targeting several premises in Pune. During those searches, the agency seized electronic devices, documents, and literature suspected to contain incriminating material.
Following the forensic examination of the seized material, the ATS registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act), 1967, as amended in 2008. The registration of the case subsequently led to Hangargikar’s arrest.
Investigation Underway
Authorities said the ongoing probe aims to uncover the suspect’s possible links to extremist networks or organisations operating within or outside the state. “The arrest was based on concrete digital and documentary evidence. Further investigation is in progress to identify others involved,” a senior ATS officer said as quoted in media.
The ATS continues to monitor possible sleeper cell activity in the region, with additional raids likely as part of a broader counter-terror crackdown.
