New Delhi: Bihar’s Mountain Man son Bhagirath Mnajhi has claimed that he was denied a ticket by the Congress party for the upcoming assembly polls in the state.

Interacting with ANI, Manjhi claimed that he even visited the national capital recently and stayed there for 4 days hoping to get the party’s ticket but didn’t get the opportunity to meet Congress leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi.

“I stayed in Delhi for 4 days but didn’t get the ticket… I had submitted all the papers. I had asked Rahul Gandhi for the ticket, and he had said that he would give the ticket… I was hopeful of getting the ticket… Everyone was given tickets, but we didn’t get the ticket. I stayed in Delhi for 4 days. I didn’t get to meet Rahul Gandhi,” said Manjhi

Earlier Rahul Gandhi visited Manjhi’s village in Gaya Ji. As per Manjhi, it was during Gandhi’s visit to the latter’s village that he had expressed his willingness to contest elections to which the Congress leader had agreed. Gandhi had also build a home for Manjhi.

Meanwhile, training guns at the Congress MP, Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] leader Shehzad Poonawal in a post on X said that “after photo op with Mountain Man Dashrath Manjhi’s son, Rahul didn’t even meet him when he camped in Delhi for 4 days.”

Manjhi’s father late Dasrath Manjhi rose to fame after he singlehandedly carved a path by cutting through a ridge of hills with hammer and chisel in Bihar’s Gaya district.

After 22 years of hard work Manjhi shortened the distance between Gaya’s Atri and Wajirganj block by around 40 Km. The state government later build a road on the pathway created by Manjhi providing much needed relief to the locals.

Congress party in Bihar is contesting the elections as part of the grand alliance [Mahagathbandhan] and announced candidates on 61 seats.

Elections for state legislative assembly are scheduled to take place on November 6 and November 11 with counting of votes to be done on November 14.
