Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on October 21 praised the bravery and dedication of police personnel in combating naxalism while also promoting development in affected areas, as the state observed Police Commemoration Day.

On the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, Chhattisgarh CM told ANI, “Police Commemoration Day is being observed to mark the sacrifices made by police and security personnel on the line of duty. The jawans ensure safety of all by remaining in tough situation.”

On fighting naxalism, CM Sai said, “Security personnel have showcased extreme courage while fighting naxalism. They have not just pushed Naxals on the backfoot, but also ensured development in the area.”

The CM further reiterated the state government’s commitment to eradicating naxalism from Chhattisgarh by March 31, 2026.

“Recalling the commitment of weeding out naxalism from Chhattisgarh by 31 March 2026, said Sai that with the courage of our police personnel, the target will be achieved within the set time frame.”

Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma echoing the sentiments, emphasized the pivotal role of security personnel in both combating naxalism and driving development in the Bastar region.

“Sending the message of courage while fighting naxalism, the security personnel are playing pivotal role in development of Bastar region,” said Deputy CM Vijay Sharma.

Paying tribute to the security personnel, who sacrificed their lives on the line of duty, Sharma also spoke about the commitment of Chhattisgarh Government towards the family members of jawans. He also informed about the memorial are being made at the village of jawans.

Red corridors are now transforming into growth corridors says Defence Minister

Earlier Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also praised the valour of security personnel for countering naxalism. The Defence Minister noted that areas that were once notorious as ‘Red Corridors’ are now transforming into ‘growth corridors’.

Singh stated that areas that were once “Naxalite hubs,” have now transformed into “education hubs” and now have roads, hospitals, schools, and colleges.

Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day programme at the National Police Memorial in national capital, Rajnath Singh noted the significant contribution and tireless efforts of police force and security personnel to this transformation.

“Areas that once trembled under the terror of Naxalites now boast roads, hospitals, schools, and colleges. The areas that were formerly Naxalite hubs, have now become education hubs. Areas of India that were notorious as Red Corridors are now transforming into growth corridors. Our police force and security personnel have contributed significantly to the transformation the government has achieved,” Singh asserted.

Singh said that the Naxalites who once took up arms against the state are now aligning themselves with the agenda of development.

“The success of the campaign against Naxalites can be gauged by the fact that the same Naxalites who previously took up arms against the state are now surrendering and aligning themselves with the primary agenda of development. Thanks to the tireless efforts of security personnel, this problem is now becoming history,” he added.

The Defence Minister exuded confidence that the left-wing extremism will be eradicated by next year. He lauded the collaborative work of police, CRPF, BSF, all paramilitary forces, and local administration in eradicating Naxalism.

Singh said, “When we talk about internal security, Naxalism has been a problem for our internal security for a long time. There was a time when several districts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh Telangana, Maharashtra was affected by Naxalism. There were no schools in the villages, lack of infrastructure. People live in fear, but we resolved not to let this problem escalate.”

“The entire country is confident that this problem will be eradicated by next year. The number of districts affected by left-wing extremism is also very low, and they too will be eliminated by March next year,” he added.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bharat’s decades-long battle against red terror has reached a decisive phase, with number of affected districts dropping sharply from 182 in 2014 to just 11 in October 2025. The Union Government has announced a deadline to eradicate Maoist-insurgency from Bharat by March next year.
