During the Oath Ceremony held yesterday at Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi, a professor, driven by political bias, misbehaved with students — using abusive language and even resorting to physical aggression. The same professor has previously been accused of openly smoking, consuming alcohol, and mentally as well as physically harassing students within the college premises.
When this incident was brought to the attention of DUSU, ABVP-led DUSU President Aryan Maan and Joint Secretary Deepika Jha reached the college to address the students’ grievances. During the discussion with the Principal, the accused professor once again used indecent and abusive language towards Deepika Jha, appearing to be under the influence of alcohol. Disturbed by the repeated misconduct, Deepika Jha sought police intervention. However, due to the inaction of the police, the professor’s continued misbehaviour, and his repeated threats towards the DUSU Joint Secretary, a momentary reaction took place — which is indeed extremely unfortunate and not supported by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in any manner.
The ABVP clearly states that both ABVP and DUSU Joint Secretary Deepika Jha remain fully committed to upholding the dignity and respect of teachers. This incident was in no way intended to insult the teaching community, but rather was a spontaneous reaction against political bias and indiscipline — an occurrence that holds no place in any academic institution.
ABVP also demands that the college administration conduct a strict disciplinary inquiry against the said professor for his misconduct towards students and establish firm measures to curb incidents of alcohol consumption, smoking, and politically motivated misbehavior with students within the campus.
ABVP State Secretary Sarthak Sharma said,“Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has always believed in upholding the dignity of teacher–student relations. Under no circumstance does misbehavior or disrespect towards a teacher have any place within an educational institution. ABVP deeply regrets this incident. However, when a professor violates the decorum of his position, harasses students out of political prejudice, or indulges in indiscipline, it damages the image of the entire teaching fraternity. Teachers are the guardians of students within educational spaces. ABVP demands a fair and impartial inquiry into this entire matter and expects that strict action be taken against the guilty professor so that students feel safe among teachers and such incidents do not recur in the future.”
