BJP Lok Sabha MP Khagen Murmu, representing Malda Uttar, was brutally attacked along with party colleagues, including MLA Shankar Ghosh, while traveling to the flood- and landslide-affected areas of Jalpaiguri to deliver relief materials. The attack took place in the Nagrakata region, as stones were reportedly pelted at the BJP vehicle carrying essential aid for victims of the recent devastating floods and landslides.
Video footage shared by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya shows MP Murmu covered in blood on his face and clothes, with security personnel rushing to his aid and arranging for emergency medical attention. Malviya blamed the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and alleged that “jungle raaj” under Mamata Banerjee is targeting BJP leaders even as they carry out relief work in disaster-hit areas.
“This is not just an attack on BJP leaders, it is an attack on the people of West Bengal who are suffering due to floods and landslides. TMC goons are preventing aid from reaching those in need while Mamata Banerjee is missing in action,” Malviya said.

The attack comes amid a catastrophic natural disaster in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts, where floods and landslides have claimed over 18 lives and displaced hundreds of villagers. Despite the scale of the disaster, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been criticized for her absence from the ground. While she acknowledged the floods on social media, attributing them to “excessive rainwater flowing from Bhutan and Sikkim,” critics say no immediate relief efforts by the state government have been visible. She is scheduled to hold a meeting later today on flood relief and disaster management.
BJP leaders allege that their attempts to reach and aid affected villagers were deliberately obstructed by TMC workers, exposing a governance vacuum in crisis-hit areas.
