Raipur: In a tragic development reported from Chhattisgarh Naxal-affected Bijapur district, armed cadres of the banned CPI [Maoist] executed another civilian, after branding him as informer of the police.
The terrifying act has sent shockwaves across the regions, leaving the locals worrying for their safety amid targeted attack by Maoists.
As per details, a Maoist’s group on late Wednesday evening barged into the Pujarikanker village under the jurisdiction of Usur police station limits and dragged out Madkam Bhima, a former cadre of the proscribed outfit from his house.
The extremists launched an attack on Bhima with sharp edged weapons, on suspicion of him being an informer of the police, killing him instantly. Bhima was said to be a former member of the Maoist’s militia, who had surrender before the police. He was a resident of Pujarijkanker, an erstwhile stronghold of Naxals.
The matter has been reported to Usur police who have now initiated an enquiry into the incident.
With Bhima’s killing on Wednesday, the number of civilians killed in Maoist’s attack this year has reached to 38. This include targeted killings of Shikshadoots [education volunteer] involved in education work in remote parts of Bastar. Notably, over 60 such incidents of targeted killing of civilians was reported in 2024.
Officials opine that the targeting of unarmed civilians reflects the brewing frustration of Maoists who are fast losing ground in Bastar’s violence-hit pockets.
“Due to the recent campaign launched against the CPI (Maoist) organisation, Maoist groups are on the back foot. Their numbers are decreasing, and their influence is shrinking. Frustration from this has led these groups to target innocent volunteers working in rural education, committing acts like killings and intimidation,” said Bastar IG P Sundarraj.
The IGP assured strict action against the Maoists involved in killing of civilians, terming them anti-development.

“This reveals the anti-development face of the Maoist organisation. Such actions do not show their strength but their weakness. We plan to identify and take strict action against all those responsible for attacks on volunteers. Additionally, we will make a special effort to ensure the safety of these volunteers,” he added.
