Quetta, the capital and largest city of Balochistan witnessed a massive explosion on September 30, leading to the death of ten people and 19 others have been severely injured. The powerful blast occurred in the vicinity of the Frontier Corps paramilitary Headquarters and the area has been completely sealed as of now. The sound of the massive explosion could be heard even miles apart, local sources confirmed.
The blast was heard in Model Town and in the peripheral areas, leading to the destruction of nearby houses and commercial establishments. Soon after the blast, intense and continuous gun firing was also heard, thus creating panic and tense among the locals. However, the nature and source of explosion has yet to be determined and the rescue team is been conducting investigation in the location of blast. “An investigation is underway to ascertain the nature of the explosion,” a senior police officer said.
The injured have been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Quetta and are receiving treatment. Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar and Health Secretary Mujeeb-ur-Rehman have ordered the hospitals in the city to render emergency treatment to the victims.
The incident is a testament to the spiking instability and violent eruptions in Balochistan, where the Baloch Liberation Army(BLA) and others have been more assertive than ever, regarding the region’s liberation from Pakistan. Meanwhile, Islamabad seeks to suppress the Baloch province. This gridlock has led to increasing violence in the region. On September 3, a suicide bombing at a political rally in Quetta killed 11 people and injured several others. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the latest blasts outside Frontier Corps headquarters as of now.
