Raipur: State Investigation Agency [SIA] of Chhattisgarh has arrested another operative of the urban support network of Maoists. The agency sleuths arrested Rama Kicham/Ram Ichha from Korba and produced him before a special court in Bilaspur on September 27 which subsequently remanded him in custody.

Kicham was in touch with the Maoist couple arrested by SIA from Raipur on September 23. He was also said to be involved in collecting funds and resources for the Maoist group via coal trade unions in Korba.

He used to visit the arrested Maoist couple from Raipur and was also involved in financial dealings with them. He is currently being interrogated by the officials.

In a major breakthrough earlier, SIA on September 23 arrested a Maoist couple from Raipur’s Changorbhatta area. The arrested individuals were later identified as Juggu Kurasam alias Ramesh, and his wife Kamla Kurasam, both residents of Bijapur’s Gangloor area.

They were nabbed after the SIA received a tip-off about presence of Maoist operatives in city area. Further investigation done by the agency led to arrest of the Maoist couple from Changorabhatta area under DD Nagar police station limits.

Both Ramesh and his wife are hardcore Maoists who earlier used to operate from forest regions. They were residing in the capital city for a few years and frequently changing their location.

Juggu is said to be a divisional committee member while his wife Kamla is an area committee member of the Maoist outfit. They were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 13 lakhs on their heads.

The couple had recently moved to Changorbhatta and also prepared fabricated documents in order to conceal their identity. The duo before their arrest were posing as daily wage labourers. The male member Ramesh had also served as security guard and driver at residence of a few senior officials.

Both Juggu and his wife are suspected to be involved in arranging medicines, supplies and logistic for senior Maoist leaders. The officials have also seized documents, cash and gold biscuits from the possession of the arrested accused.

The arrests of Maoist operatives, posing as ordinary citizens from urban localities has stunned the local residents. Details related to urban support network of Maoists are being probed further by the security agencies.
