A disturbing case of harassment, religious coercion, and violence has shaken Rajasthan’s Tonk district. On September 26, five men threatened a minor Hindu girl with forced religious conversion and acid attack, before vandalising a coaching centre and assaulting staff members.
According to police, the victim, a student at a Jail Road coaching institute, had been facing continuous harassment for over a month. The accused, identified as Amir, Tahir, Rahil, Hameed, and Saddam, reportedly stalked her, taunted her, and pressured her to convert her religion and marry one of them. The threats escalated when the men allegedly warned that refusal would result in an acid attack.
Fearing for her safety, the girl contacted Child Helpline 1098 earlier and also informed her coaching centre director, Hemraj, about the repeated harassment. Acting responsibly, Hemraj confronted the accused, warning them against further harassment.
However, matters turned violent later that evening when the five men returned with weapons. They barged into the coaching centre, vandalised property, assaulted staff members, and spread panic among students.
Videos of the attack soon went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation from local residents and Hindu organisations. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as furniture was smashed and staff members beaten.
The victim has lodged a formal complaint at the Kotwali police station. Senior police officer DCP Rajesh Vidyarthi visited the site, reviewed the situation, and assured security for the girl and the coaching institute. Additional police deployment has been made in the area to prevent further unrest.
Despite the seriousness of the charges, which include stalking, harassment, religious coercion, and violent assault, no arrests have been made so far.
This attack marks the second violent incident in Tonk in recent weeks, raising sharp questions about law and order in the district. Residents have urged authorities to act decisively, warning that public anger is simmering.
