Guwahati: Amid chanting of mantras, thousands singing his songs and with state honour, the mortal remains of Assam’s musical legend Zubeen Garg merged in ‘Panch Mahabhoot’. The favourite son of Assam who died in Singapore on September 19 was cremated today in Kamarkuchi near Guwahati with full state honour. Earlier PM Modi, BJP national president J P Nadda, home minister Amitsha, Royal Bhutan government, Bangladesh government, all NE states and several leaders condolled the untimely demise of the singer.

It should be mentioned that in his short life of 52 years, Zubeen Garg sang over 30,000 songs in 40 Indian languages including Assamese, Hindi, Bengali etc. He also sang songs in almost every tribal language of the Northeast. Starting his singing career in 1992 at the age of 20, Zubeen composed songs for over 50 films in Assamese, Bengali and Hindu. He also produced, directed and acted in a dozen of Assamese. The singer who is known as the people’s singer single handedly rejuvenated the Assamese music industry during the dark era of insurgency in early 90s which still flourish with his every song.
