Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh is all set to celebrate a grand Deepotsav this Deepawali with a dazzling display of green fireworks. The city of Bhagwan Ram will come alive as more than 26 lakh (2.6 million) diyas or earthen lamps are lit at Ram Ki Paidi and along the ghats of the Saryu River. This spectacular celebration aims to set a new Guinness World Record.

State government officials have announced that eco-friendly, pollution-free fireworks will be one of the major highlights of this year’s Deepotsav, scheduled for October 19. Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that preparations are already underway to ensure Deepotsav 2025 is both divine and magnificent. “This year, with over 26 lakh diyas and world-class, eco-friendly fireworks, we aim to showcase Ayodhya’s rich cultural heritage and offer devotees an unforgettable experience,” he said.

He added that a special highlight of the celebrations will be a pollution-free green fireworks show, a unique blend of faith and innovation. Lasting around 10 minutes, this international-standard spectacle will feature synchronised music, laser effects, and modern choreography. As vibrant fireworks light up the sky and reflect off the serene waters of the Saryu, the breathtaking display is expected to leave spectators spellbound.

Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Mukesh Kumar Meshram, stated that Deepotsav 2025 will be a celebration of both tradition and innovation. He emphasised that the inclusion of eco-friendly fireworks is intended to send a strong message of sustainability to devotees, while also presenting Ayodhya’s rich cultural heritage on a global platform.

The Deepotsav celebrations in Ayodhya have been held annually since the Yogi government came to power in 2017. During last year’s festivities, a record-breaking 25,12,585 (2.51 million) diyas were lit along the banks of the Saryu River, earning a place in the Guinness World Records. In total, over 35 lakh diyas illuminated various parts of Ayodhya, creating a spectacular and unforgettable sight.
