A shocking incident has surfaced in Assam’s Goalpara district, where the police have arrested NSUI leader Iqbal Hussan on charges of sexually harassing a girl student at a local college. The accused, a college student body leader associated with the Congress party’s student wing, was taken into custody following the victim’s complaint, sparking uproar on the campus and widespread condemnation across the region.
As per the report, the accused Hussan molested a 17-year-old class 12 student on the evening of the ‘fresher day’ on September 11. The victim, a Hindu minor, lodged an FIR at Goalpara Sadar police station after the incident. The FIR states that the victim was invited by the accused, Hussan, to the student union room to obtain her admission receipt. When the victim reached the student union room, the accused NSUI leader molested her and tried to raped her. The victim somehow managed to escape from there and informed her friend about the incident.
The accused Iqbal and his friend even threatened the minor girl not to make the matter public or face dire consequences. Students of the college lodged a strong protest against the accused in front of the college authority. Seeing growing anger among the students, the college authority called the police. Later, ABVP and Rabha student union staged a protest demanding strong action against the accused NSUI leader.
Police arrested the accused NSUI leader, Iqbal Hussan, and started an investigation into the matter. Students of Goalpara college accused that NSUI leaders on many occasions harass girl students of the college. But on September 11, it crossed the limit as the arrested NSUI leader, Hussan, molested a minor Hindu student. The situation at the college remains tense. Security personnel were deployed on the college campus to prevent any unwanted situation.
