Bijapur: Two Maoists were neutralised in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur during an encounter with security forces, officials informed on September 12. A .303 rifle, large quantities of explosives and other weapons have been recovered.
While the exact location of the security forces is not revealed, officials said that they had launched a search operation in the south-west region of Bijapur district. As per officials, intermittent firing is continuing on the site and more details about the exchange of fire are still awaited.

26 Maoists were arrested from separate localities of Bijapur district on Thursday. According to officials, 6 among the arrested Maoists were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 13 lakhs. One of the arrested cadre was identified as Munna Potam, a member of the PLGA battalion no 1, carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakhs on his head.
Earlier security forces in a separate encounter neutralised 10 Maoists, including senior commander and Central Committee (CC) member Modem Balkrishna alias Manoj in Gariaband of Chhattisgarh. The security forces have also recovered weapons from the site of the gunfight.
The gunfight broke out when a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force [CRPF], CoBRA and STF was out on a combing operation in the forest area along the Bhaludigi hills under Mainpur police station limits. Intermittent firing continued on the site on Friday morning and details about the encounter are awaited.
Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma on Thursday congratulated the officials for conducting an “excellent operation” in a restrained manner.
“It was an excellent operation. It was a joint operation of CRPF’s Cobra commandos, Chhattisgarh Police, and DRG conducted in a very restrained manner. The operation lasted for two days. In the encounter, all the Naxals were killed. A Naxal with a bounty of Rs 1 crore was also killed. Along with that nine other Naxals were killed,” said Sharma.
