Mira Road Hindu family attacked over encroachment dispute

In a clear display of breach of personal space and rights, a Muslim family in Mira Road, Mumbai, has been accused of not only abusing and threatening their past landlords but also of illegally encroaching on their property. When the landlords objected to this encroachment, the confrontation turned violent and the family faced serious threats to life. A disturbing video of the incident obtained by Organiser shows the complainant being attacked by two burqa-clad women in broad daylight.

A First Information Report numbered 408/25 was registered at Mira Road Police Station on September 9, 2025, under sections 189(2), 191(2), 191(3), 190, 115(2), and 118(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused men have been identified as Imran, Nadeem, their wives, daughters, and other family members.

According to the FIR accessed by Organiser, the complaint was filed by Trupti Abhishek Tiwari, aged 36 years, resident of Kandivali (East), Mumbai. Trupti narrated in her statement that her husband, Abhishek Badrivishal Tiwari, works in construction and interior contracting, while she herself is employed in the private sector. She said that her mother-in-law is the owner of two shops, numbered 14 and 15, located on the first floor of Saidham Complex, behind bus stop number 15 at Mira Road East.

In her complaint, Trupti explained, “I had planned to start a school for children in these shops. Both the said shops were earlier given on rent to Ismail Imran. Since we were planning to start a school, the rent agreement was terminated two months ago. Presently, our furniture business is running in this place. There is a separate entrance through the stairs to go to the said shop. Below the said stairs is the meter room of the society. From that place, Imran has illegally broken the wall of the meter room and made a road to go to the back side and has occupied the open space of the slum and has built an unauthorised gym.”

She further stated that Imran had made several unauthorised constructions. “Now all the children who go to the gym pass through that path. He has also built a concrete office by putting an angle in the middle of the shop that I own. He has built a sheet shed on the terrace that belongs to us above the canal and constructed two toilets. In this way, he has occupied the land that belongs to us. He has also used the staircase that belongs to me to go there and now he is mischief-making by saying that the land is his.”

The situation escalated on September 9, 2025, at around 1:00 PM, when Trupti and her husband Abhishek, visited the shops to check on the ongoing furniture work being overseen by their worker, Lalan Tiwari (addressed as Lalan Uncle by the family). According to Trupti, her husband objected to the gym members using the illegal passage through the meter room and told them that he would be closing the gate. This confrontation triggered a violent chain of events.

Trupti recalled, “At that time, Imran’s wife and his daughter came there and said that they wanted to make a video to complain against my husband. My husband asked me to also record a video. My husband then told both the women that we had given the shop on rent to Imran, and that we would talk to him directly, and that they had nothing to do with it. At that time, Imran came to the place and said why did you abuse my daughter? He then hit my husband on the head and hand with a C-shaped iron rod and injured him. Imran’s daughter hit him with a plastic pipe lying there. Imran’s wife hit him with a hard object like a round wooden wheel from the gym.”

The violence intensified as more people joined in. Trupti stated, “At the same time, Imran’s brother Nadeem and three to four of his friends came there and grabbed Abhishek by the neck, pulled him down and started beating him with kicks and punches. When I shouted and tried to save him, they all started abusing me and when they were about to kill him, Abhishek asked me to go to my house. I went upstairs and immediately sent the video of the incident to my father-in-law, Badri Vishal Tiwari. Then Imran, his wife, and daughter started asking for my phone number. Imran’s wife said to me, ‘Give me your phone, if you don’t give me your phone number, I will kill your husband.’ She took the phone, deleted the recording and returned the phone. She also beat me. Even our worker, Lalan Tiwari, was beaten up by them.”

The complaint further states that the accused not only assaulted Abhishek with kicks, punches, iron rods, plastic pipes, and wooden wheels, but also issued life threats. “They conspired to form an illegal group and threatened to kill my husband further, abused and pushed me, deleted the video evidence from my phone, and later I came to know that Imran’s family also beat up Lalan Kaka,” Trupti wrote in her complaint.

It is pertinent to note that the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road is a densely populated Muslim-majority locality. The complainant highlighted the hostile conditions for Hindus in the area. She said, “This makes it impossible for Hindus to survive as their daughters get attacked, abused, threatened, and they themselves face constant threats and encroachment issues.”

As of now, the Mira Road Police have registered a case and investigations are underway. The family continues to remain under threat.
