A man from Haryana was shot dead in the US after he allegedly stopped someone from urinating outside the store where he worked, his family said.

The victim, 26-year-old Kapil from Barah Kalan village in Jind district, was employed as a security guard at a store in California. According to village head Suresh Kumar Gautam, Kapil confronted a man urinating near the store, which led to an argument. Moments later, the man pulled out a gun and shot him.

Kapil had reportedly gone to the US around three years ago using the “donkey route,” which involved crossing the dense jungles of Panama and scaling the Mexico border wall, according to sources. Although he was initially detained upon entry, he was later released following legal proceedings and has been living in the US since. His journey is said to have cost his family approximately Rs 45 lakh. Kapil is survived by his parents and two sisters. His father, a farmer, owns a small piece of land.

Gautam has called on both the Central and Haryana governments to assist in bringing Kapil’s body back to his village. He also told the sources that the family intends to meet with the deputy commissioner to discuss the matter.

In May this year, a man of Indian origin was fatally shot in the United States by an individual posing as a customer. The victim was inside the shop when the assailant entered and attempted to rob the cash counter. Although the victim appeared to comply with the demands, the attacker shot him dead after taking all the money.

Another incident emerged in March when a 24-year-old Indian woman and her 56-year-old father were shot dead at a department store in Virginia. According to reports, the accused came to the store to buy liquor and questioned why it was closed at night. He then opened fire on the father and daughter.
