Bijapur: Maoists have killed another Shikshadoot [Government appointed education volunteer] in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division.
As per reports, a group of Maoist abducted education volunteer Kallu Tati on Friday evening when the latter was returning from school. He was later executed by the members of the banned group.
The incident marks second such occurrence in Bastar within a span of two days, sending shockwaves through the region.
The deceased was an original resident of Todta village and was posted at a school under Gangloor area of Bijapur.
The incident follows brutal killing of another education volunteer by Maoists in Silger village of Sukma on Wednesday.
Laxhman Barse, a Shikshadoot posted near Silger was kidnapped and brutally hacked to death by Naxals. The ultras had accused Barse for working as an informer, a charge often labelled by the Maoist group against the civilians targeted by them.
Back to back killings of education volunteers have once again raised serious concerns over safety of government appointed employees, working in Maoist-affected interior areas.
Over 60 incidents of civilian killings carried out by Maoists were reported from Naxal-hit Bastar division of the State.
This comes amidst strengthening of security apparatus in all seven districts of Bastar division, resulting in notable successes for security forces who have managed to inflict upon major damages to the unlawful group.
Operations in State’s affected region such as Abujhmad and South Bastar have resulted in neutralisation of over 450 Maoists including a few top cadres of CPI [Maoist] since December 2023.
Authorities says that incidents of violence against unarmed civilians only reflects the frustration of the outlawed group as not only it is facing a serious crunch of leadership, but it’s organizational strength has also dropped down significantly in recent time, leading to weakening of its grip in areas previously considered as its strongholds.
