NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat on August 28 emphasised the importance of linguistic harmony, asserting that every language spoken in Bharat should be regarded as a national language. He underlined that disputes over language should not divide people, and instead, a Bharatiya language should be prioritised for interactive communication, rather than reliance on any foreign tongue.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion of lecture series on 100 years of Sangh Yatra, Dr Bhagwat highlighted how the country’s linguistic diversity is one of its greatest strengths. He cautioned against divisive tendencies that pit one language against another, stressing that such conflicts weaken national unity. “We should not create disputes over language. Every Bharatiya language is a national language. For communication, there must be a Bharatiya language, not a foreign one,” he said.
Dr Bhagwat’s remarks come at a time when language debates—particularly around Hindi, English, and regional languages—often dominate political and cultural discourse. Bhagwat ji’s statement is being seen as an attempt to strike a balance between respecting India’s linguistic diversity and promoting a unifying framework for communication.
