On August 25, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare announced that nearly 26 lakh ineligible beneficiaries have been identified under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme, according to sources.
Tatkare stated that the state’s Information and Technology (IT) Department had shared preliminary data indicating that these women had received benefits despite not meeting the scheme’s eligibility criteria.
In a post on X, she noted that the IT Department’s initial findings suggest these beneficiaries do not appear to qualify as per the guidelines of the scheme.

The list of ineligible beneficiaries has been forwarded to district authorities for physical verification, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare confirmed. She stated that the Women and Child Development Department has shared the preliminary data with the respective district administrations for further scrutiny.
Tatkare assured that eligible beneficiaries would continue receiving financial support without any disruption.
Launched in July 2024, the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme offers Rs 1,500 per month to women aged 21 to 65 whose annual income is below Rs 2.5 lakh, provided they are not availing benefits from other government welfare schemes.
Earlier investigations revealed several irregularities in the implementation of the scheme, including cases where more than two women from the same family were receiving benefits, recipients were enrolled in multiple welfare schemes, and even instances where men had applied. Minister Aditi Tatkare assured that genuine beneficiaries would not be affected.
“It will be verified whether any woman provided a male family member’s bank account due to not having one in her own name. If such genuine cases are found, fund transfers will resume accordingly,” she stated.
She further added that action will be taken against ineligible recipients following field verification, under the direction of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
