The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday strongly condemned what it termed the “illegal arrest” of Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao and several senior leaders, accusing the Congress-led state government of using arrests to divert public attention from its failures.
According to party leaders, the convoy of Ramchander Rao was intercepted at Moinabad while he was returning to Hyderabad after a 24-hour tour of Chevella Assembly constituency. He was subsequently taken into custody and shifted to the Moinabad police station.
Police also detained several BJP leaders and hundreds of workers who were on their way to participate in a protest near the Secretariat. The agitation, titled “Save Hyderabad”, was planned to highlight what the party called the negligence of the Congress government in providing basic civic amenities within the GHMC limits.
“The state government has totally failed to improve drainage and drinking water systems, take precautionary measures against dangerous hanging electric wires, and address the bad condition of roads and traffic problems,” said Dr. Kasam Venkateswarlu, State General Secretary, adding that government inaction had already cost lives in recent incidents at Ramanthapur and in the Old City.
BJP State President said on X that the government’s actions are an attempt to suppress without addressing public issues. He pointed out that within the limits of Greater Hyderabad, the drainage system has completely collapsed, roads are riddled with potholes, traffic control is non-existent, and colonies have become unliveable with the stench of garbage.
