Raipur: In a tragic incident that unfolded in Naxal-hit Binagunda of Kanker district, armed Maoists have brutally executed a civilian on alleged charges of espionage.

As per details, a group of cadres belonging to the banned Communist Party of India [Maoist] barged into the Binagunda village under the jurisdiction of Chotebethiya police station of Kanker on August 18 and abducted three villagers.

The abducted men were later paraded before a Jan Adalat [A self-styled court of Maoist] where the extremists brutally executed one of them on charges of espionage. The other two abducted villagers were however later set free with a stern warning.

The slain villager was identified as Manesh Naruti, a resident of Binagunda village.

According to reports, the Maoists had recently dropped posters and banner in a nearby village, issuing death threats to Naruti and a few other villagers for alleged espionage activities.

The slain individual Narauti was reportedly part of a group of villagers which on the occasion of Independence Day had hoisted the tricolour on a Maoist’s monument in Binagunda area along raising patriotic slogans.

It is being reported that the Maoist group was enraged with the development, which eventually led to the brutal killing of Naruti.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, leaving the residents in a terrified state. The authorities on the other hand are trying to establish contact with the family members of the slain villager.

Infamous for Maoist presence, Binagunda village was long considered a bastion of Maoist group where the forces have managed to made inroad and firmed their grip in recent times.

Notably 29 Maoists, including 14 female operatives of the outlawed Maoist group were gunned down in a fierce encounter that had broke out between the security forces and Maoists in nearby forest area of Binagunda area in April last year.

The exchange of fire broke out in forest of Binagunda-Korgutta area when a joint team of security personnel was out on a search operation. The team after the stoppage of firing recovered bodies of 29 Maoists along seizing a huge cache of weapon and ammunition.
