The inauguration ceremony will take place at Jessore Road Metro Station on the Yellow Line, located in Kolkata’s northern suburbs.
With the opening of the Sealdah–Esplanade stretch, the long-awaited East-West Metro line will finally be completed. This will seamlessly connect Howrah Maidan–Esplanade with Sector V–Sealdah, ensuring smoother cross-city travel for lakhs of commuters.
The 4.39-km Orange Line extension from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Crossing) to Beleghata will introduce four new stations, VIP Bazar, Ritwik Ghatak (Topsia), Barun Sengupta (Science City), and Beleghata. The extension is expected to significantly ease travel for residents of southern and eastern Kolkata.
The Yellow Line stretch from Noapara to Jai Hind Bimanbandar will feature four stations—Noapara, Dum Dum Cantonment, Jessore Road, and Jai Hind Bimanbandar. With both elevated and underground sections, the line will provide Kolkata’s first direct Metro link to the airport, offering faster and more affordable connectivity for air travellers.
