Aadhaar-based face authentication has reached a significant milestone, doubling its usage from 100 crore to 200 crore transactions in just six months, the government announced on August 11.
This technology allows Aadhaar holders to verify their identity instantly, securely, and without physical contact—anytime, anywhere—without the need for any documents.
On August 10, 2025, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) celebrated the achievement of 200 crore face authentication transactions, highlighting India’s swift progress toward seamless, secure, and paperless digital authentication, according to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The adoption of Aadhaar-based face authentication has grown at an exponential pace. By mid-2024, the number of transactions stood at 50 crore. This figure doubled to 100 crore by January 2025 in just about five months. In less than six months since then, the number has doubled once again, reaching the 200 crore milestone, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology reported.
“Achieving 200 crore Aadhaar Face Authentication transactions in such a short span highlights the strong trust and confidence that both residents and service providers place in Aadhaar’s secure, inclusive, and innovative authentication ecosystem,” said Bhuvnesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UIDAI.
The journey from 100 crore to 200 crore transactions in less than six months showcases the scalability of Aadhaar Face Authentication and reflects the country’s digital readiness.
Bhuvnesh Kumar added, “From rural villages to metropolitan cities, UIDAI is collaborating with governments, banks, and service providers to make Aadhaar Face Authentication a resounding success, empowering every Indian to verify their identity instantly, securely, and from anywhere.” This rapid increase in Aadhaar Face Authentication transactions embodies the core vision of Digital India, driving the nation toward becoming a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.
By enabling instant, secure, and paperless identity verification across the country, UIDAI is reinforcing the foundation of digital governance. “This milestone goes beyond mere numbers; it stands as proof that inclusive technology, when efficiently scaled, can bridge gaps, empower citizens, and accelerate India’s journey toward a truly connected and confident digital future,” the ministry stated.
