In a fiery rebuttal to CPI(M) state secretariat member M.V. Jayarajan’s recent threat, Rajya Sabha MP C. Sadanandan Master has declared that neither Jayarajan nor “even his army (CPI(M)” would be enough to stop him from being an MP. Master’s strong words come in the wake of CPI(M) leaders openly supporting party workers convicted in the brutal 1994 assassination attempt on his life. The political war of words erupted after Jayarajan mocked Sadanandan Master, calling him the “Pragya Singh Thakur of Kerala” and warning that “no one should think they can shine as MPs by putting communists in jail.” Jayarajan claimed that eight comrades had gone to jail not for embezzlement but for “justice,” insinuating that Master’s political standing was built on their imprisonment.
Sadanandan master defies CPI(M) threat with vow of public backing
Sadanandan Master, in a scathing social media post, hit back hard. “The decision is to become an MP…!! I was busy, so I was late to know about the comrade’s misdeeds. You are not enough to stop him from becoming an MP, comrade…!! Even your army will not be enough. The communists were imprisoned by the Supreme Court. It is the punishment for the brutality shown by you leaders who gave them bombs, swords, and axes. There is no point in lamenting now.” The Rajya Sabha MP reminded Jayarajan that his membership was conferred “by the order of the venerable President” and on the “advice of the Prime Minister,” as a fulfilment of the ideals for which countless freedom fighters had laid down their lives that not the divisive politics practised by CPI(M) leadership. He pointed out the CPI(M) leaders of nurturing hatred and intolerance, stating, “I have the blessings of thousands of mothers and families who have suffered because they refused to be enslaved by you. I have the support of millions who want to see goodness flourish in the country. So just fold that paper and put it on the shelf.”
CPI(M) under fire for glorifying convicts in 1994 attack on Sadanandan Master
The political confrontation comes amid growing controversy over CPI(M)’s public show of solidarity with eight party workers convicted in the 1994 attack on Sadanandan Master. On January 25, 1994, the then-school teacher and RSS jilla sah-karyavah survived a brutal assault in which his leg was amputated. The Supreme Court recently upheld the convictions, rejecting the accused’s final appeal. Yet, rather than accept the court’s verdict, CPI(M) leaders have openly embraced the convicts. CPI(M) MLA K.K. Shailaja, among others, was seen seeing off the convicted men as they surrendered to serve their sentences, a move widely condemned as glorifying political violence. P. Jayarajan, another senior CPI(M) figure, visited the accused in Kannur Central Jail just days ago. He conveyed his “best wishes” to them, arranged medical treatment for the sick, and even promised to visit their homes and meet their families, a gesture amounts to endorsing their crimes.
MV Jayarajan’s recent remarks, delivered after the convicts’ surrender, further escalated tensions. His statement that “no one should think they can shine as MPs by putting communists in jail” was widely interpreted as a direct threat to Sadanandan Master. Jayarajan also tried to portray the convicted attackers as martyrs, claiming they went to jail “for justice”, a narrative directly at odds with the Supreme Court’s findings, which confirmed their guilt in the attempted murder. In response, Sadanandan Master exposed the hypocrisy of CPI(M)’s moral posturing, highlighting how the party shields and celebrates those who used violence to silence political opponents. The episode has reignited public debate about CPI(M)’s history of political bloodshed in Kannur, a district notorious for decades of CPI(M)-linked killings and attacks.
