Under the joint aegis of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a one-day national educational workshop on the theme “National Education Policy 2020: Resolutions, Efforts, and Challenges” was organised at the Shri Gorakhnath Research Centre in Gorakhpur. The event was attended by Vice-Chancellors from eight universities across India and Directors from two research institutions. The discussions centered on effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) as it completed five years, with around 200 participants from across the country taking part.
Although the NEP completed five years in 2025, doubts still persist among students and teachers, and several universities remain behind in its effective implementation. The workshop was organised to address such challenges through dialogue. It comprised four sessions—Inaugural Session, Key Provisions and Objectives of the NEP, University Efforts for NEP Implementation, and a Valedictory Session—where future strategies were discussed to ensure its successful execution.
Before the valedictory session, Deen Dayal Upadhyay University, Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, Maa Vindhyavasini University, and Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang State University reached a consensus on several academic issues and signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The workshop witnessed the presence of Prof KN Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of South Bihar; Prof. Sanjay Srivastava, Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Central University; Prof. Prabhashankar Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, North-Eastern Hill University; Prof. Shriprakash Mani Tripathi, Former Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi Tribal University; Prof. Shishir Kumar Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang University; Prof. Brijendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology; Prof. Shobha Gaur, Vice-Chancellor, Maa Vindhyavasini University; Dr. Ramanand, Director, Centre for Policy Research and Governance; and Dr. P. Shankar, Director, National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi (via virtual mode).
In the inaugural session, Prof. Rajsharan Shahi, National President of ABVP, highlighted the objective and significance of the workshop, stating: “Today, in this prestigious university of Gorakhpur, we are deliberating on various aspects of the National Education Policy, which has drawn a significant foundation from here. The 32-page note of dissent presented by Mahant Digvijaynath of Gorakhpur on the draft of the then Education Policy became the foundation stone of its present form. The current NEP is the Education Policy of the Indian mind, where our identity is not hidden but embraced with pride.”
In the valedictory session, Ankit Shukla, National Secretary of ABVP, congratulated everyone on the successful organization of the workshop, summarized the key takeaways, and emphasized the need for effective implementation of the NEP.
Welcoming participants from the academic fraternity, Prof. Poonam Tandon, Vice-Chancellor of Gorakhpur University, said: “Now that the National Education Policy has completed five years, it becomes imperative to review the direction in which we must move forward for its effective implementation. Despite the severe challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Uttar Pradesh became the first state to adopt the NEP after its announcement in 2020. Today, many positive outcomes of the NEP are visible, and Gorakhpur University will continue to play a leading role in its implementation.”
